Why this glossary exists

The vocabulary of training and certification decides a great deal: whoever holds it compares two offers in three minutes. Institute of Advanced Technological and Commercial Studies opens it to everyone, word by word, with the plain definition, its real use in our programmes and the route to the courses where the term is practised.

How to read an entry

Every entry follows the same rhythm, so you can go straight to what you need: the definition if the word is new, the programme table if you are already comparing courses.

Every figure in this glossary comes from the official catalogue: each one can be recomputed, line by line, from the published programmes. One credit is 25 hours of work, 10 of them taught, and that rule holds everywhere.

Are the figures quoted up to date?

They are computed from the catalogue every time the site is published: credits, taught hours, durations and fees come from the programme pages themselves.

Where do I start when the whole vocabulary is new?

With the first family: credit, course unit, taught hour and independent study are enough to read any programme page on the site.

Do the definitions hold outside Guinea?

The vocabulary of certification is widely shared, and terms specific to the zone — OHADA, SYSCOHADA — are flagged as such and set back in their framework.
