SYSCOHADA: the accounting framework of the zone
SYSCOHADA is the accounting framework shared by OHADA member states. It sets the chart of accounts, the financial statements and the measurement rules every company in the zone applies. An accountant fluent in it works the same way across the whole zone.
A shared accounting framework
The OHADA accounting system organises how transactions are recorded and presented: standardised chart of accounts, measurement rules, annual financial statements. It distinguishes a standard system, for companies above a given threshold, and a minimal cash system for the smallest structures. An accountant fluent in it works the same way across seventeen countries.
- Standardised chart of accounts and shared measurement rules
- Standard system and minimal cash system, depending on size
- Annual financial statements presented identically across the zone
The statements produced at closing
The Finance and Accounting programme has candidates keep a complete set of books over a financial year: entries, reconciliation, year-end adjustments, production of the statements. The Finance and OHADA Compliance certificate revisits the same framework from the control side, for a professional who verifies rather than records.
| Financial statement | What it presents |
|---|---|
| Balance sheet | What the company owns and owes, at the closing date |
| Income statement | The income and expenses of the year, and the resulting profit |
| Cash flow statement | Where the money comes from and where it goes, across the year |
| Notes | The methods applied and the detail that makes the accounts readable |
