Quality, and how it is controlled

Teaching quality is proved by the circuit that produces it and by the reviews that correct it. Here are both, with their cadence, their checkpoints and what every report triggers.

The quality cycle, in five stages

The cycle is identical for a two-hour module and a three-year programme. It begins before production and closes after the session, which ensures that a fix benefits the next cohort.

  1. 01

    Verifiable scoping

The objective is stated as a measurable action verb. An objective you cannot assess is rewritten before any production starts.

  2. 02

    Accuracy check

Accuracy, currency, consistency with the stated objective. Content that fails the check goes back to production.

  3. 03

    Named sign-off

An identified academic lead publishes and answers for it. This stage stays with a person, in every case.

  4. 04

    In-session observation

Reports, recurring tutor questions and sticking points are collected throughout the session.

  5. 05

    Review and revision

At closure, the module is reviewed in the light of what was observed, then republished for the next session.

What we measure

Six measures are enough to steer a piece of content, and each is read on a specific module rather than on an institution-wide average. An average hides precisely the module that needs revising; a per-unit measure names it.

  • The real time between a submission and its signed correction
  • Questions put to the tutor, grouped by point in the syllabus
  • The places in the path where learners revisit a lesson
  • Gaps between the published marking grid and the marks awarded
  • Accuracy reports, opened by learners and teachers alike
  • Each module's compliance with its stated study volume and credits

Review cadence

Each object has its cadence and its decision-maker. The table fits on one page so everyone knows, without asking, when their subject will be examined.

What a report triggers

An accuracy report can be opened by anyone, in one line, from the lesson concerned. It is handled within the times published on the governance page, and where it concerns a point of substance, the fix benefits the running session at once.

Questions about quality

Do you publish outcome indicators?

Indicators are published from the moment a cohort has produced them, and they then carry that cohort's date and size. Meanwhile this page publishes what is already checkable: study volumes, credits, response times and the control circuit. Those are figures you can recompute yourself.

What happens to a module found wanting?

It returns to production with the observations behind the decision, passes the accuracy check again and awaits a fresh named sign-off before republication. The running session keeps the frozen version the cohort was assessed on, which preserves equal treatment.

Who can open a report?

Any enrolled learner, any teacher, and any client organisation from its space. The report is logged, dated and tracked to closure, with a written answer either way — the fix made, or the reasoning for keeping the content as it stands.
