IHETC
The skills we teach, one by one
A skill is an asset: it follows you from one role to the next, one employer to the next, one sector to the next. Here are the skills IHETC teaches, what each one makes you able to lead, and the taught hours behind it.
A skill is a transferable asset
A programme is chosen once; a skill is reused for twenty years. That is why every page starts from the act and works back to the programmes, rather than the other way round. You will find what the skill authorises, the taught volume behind it, the year of study where it comes into play, and the occupations whose official framework requires it.
- The professional acts the skill makes you able to carry out
- The teaching blocks that train it, with their taught hours
- The level of command reached on completion
- The programmes that teach it, with duration, level and real fees
- The professional qualifications whose framework carries it
What this directory covers
Every figure here is recomputed from the official catalogue on each build of the site. They state the real reach of the taught base, programme by programme and framework by framework.

How they break down
Nine families cover the taught base, from software development to the industrial floor. The breakdown follows the catalogue: it mirrors the filed programmes rather than a balance decided in advance.

How to read a skill page
- 01
Start with the acts
The first list states what you will be able to carry out. If those acts match your project, the rest of the page is for you.
- 02
Check the taught volume
The hours shown are those of the filed catalogue. They tell you the real scale of the learning.
- 03
Locate the year of study
A skill taught in year one equips you fast; taught in year three, it crowns an established base.
- 04
Choose your way in
A short course installs the act in weeks; a long programme sets it within a whole profession.
Questions about skills
Can I learn a single skill without taking a whole programme?
Yes. The short courses and professional certificates in the catalogue each carry one skill or a small group of skills, with their own hours and their own award. Every page states which ones.
How can I check that the stated volume is real?
Every block shown here comes from the official catalogue filed with the ministry, with its taught hours and credits. The rule is public: one credit is twenty-five hours of work, ten of them taught.
Will an employer recognise a skill acquired here?
It is, through the output you produce and the award that attests it. Professional qualifications target a named occupation and a level of responsibility, from level 4 to level 7: that is the language recruiters read.
Where do I start when several skills interest me?
Take the one your current role calls for soonest. Each page shows the year of study of every block: a first-year skill makes you operational well before the programme ends.
