Skills
Compliance and anti-money-laundering
Know your customer, risk-based vigilance, detection of atypical transactions, suspicious activity reporting: compliance has become a condition of doing business for banks, microfinance institutions and insurers across the sub-region.
A function that has become strategic
Compliance protects the institution as much as the financial system: it conditions correspondent banking relationships, and therefore access to international flows. The skill covers a full chain — identify the customer and the beneficial owner, calibrate vigilance to risk, detect the atypical transaction, document the file and report when the criteria are met. The certificate teaches it over six months to professionals already working in banking, microfinance and insurance.
- Assemble a know-your-customer file and identify the beneficial owner
- Calibrate vigilance to the risk profile of the customer and the transaction
- Detect an atypical transaction and document the analysis carried out
- Draft a suspicious activity report and maintain the associated audit trail
Your level of command, stated plainly
You run a financial institution's compliance framework and report on it to its governing body. A skill is best stated by what it lets you carry out on your own, on completion.
