Designing and consuming programming interfaces

A programming interface is the contract through which two pieces of software talk. Designing it well means deciding what a system exposes, in what shape and with what guarantees. It is the skill that connects a mobile app, a database and an artificial intelligence model.

The contract between two systems

Everything in a modern application is assembled through interfaces: mobile payment, mapping, authentication, the artificial intelligence model. Knowing how to design one means being able to state what a service promises and what it expects, in a contract other teams will read without you. Knowing how to consume one means integrating a partner in hours where an untrained team spends weeks. Both acts are learned together, because each illuminates the other.

  • Design a clear, versioned and documented interface contract
  • Secure access with tokens and manage rights by role
  • Integrate a third-party payment, mapping or identity service
  • Diagnose a failing integration from network traces

The modules that carry it

A cross-curricular module spread over several years reads « Years 1 to 3 »: it runs alongside the whole programme rather than a single term.

The volume behind the skill

You publish a documented interface other teams consume without calling on you, and you integrate an external partner end to end. These hours are taught: live sessions, workshops, output reviews and assessments.

Where it fits in your path

A short course installs the act; a long programme sets it inside a complete profession. Both are open.
