Organising information so that it gets found
Content that cannot be found is content that does not exist. Information architecture organises sections, labels and navigation paths so a visitor reaches what they want in three moves, on a phone as well as on a wide screen.
Three moves to reach what matters
A service's architecture is judged by one simple measure: how many moves separate a visitor's arrival from what they came for. Reducing it means naming sections with users' words rather than the org chart's, grouping by intent rather than by issuing department, and checking the result with a findability test. The block teaches those methods and their tools — card sorting, navigation trees, remote testing — on real services.
- Build a site structure from visitors' real intents
- Label sections with the words users actually use
- Run a card sort and a remote findability test
- Design navigation that holds on a phone screen
What the catalogue devotes to it
You restructure an existing service and demonstrate the gain with a findability test before and after. Figures computed from the blocks listed above, on every build of the site.
