A competency block is a set of abilities assessed together and certified together. The 72 professional qualifications in the catalogue hold 360 of them: each one is worked and validated in its own right.

What a block gathers

A competency block brings together the abilities a role uses at once, with its own hours and its own assessment. The official framework sets the content; you validate one, then another, and build your qualification that way. The catalogue publishes 360 blocks for 72 qualifications, that is 49750 taught hours and 4975 credits in total.

The five blocks of one qualification, up close

The health, safety and environment officer qualification breaks down into blocks, each carrying its own hours. You validate the first block and it is yours; you take the next one six months later if your job calls for it. This structure makes returning to study compatible with a full-time position.
