Careers

Human resources assistant

Recruiting, welcoming, contracting, tracking absences, preparing payroll inputs: the HR assistant handles personnel administration and the first contact with candidates. A role where discretion counts as much as method.

What the function actually covers

Recruitment takes the visible share: writing a clear advert, screening applications, arranging interviews, answering everyone. Personnel administration takes the invisible share and most of the time — contracts, amendments, the register, hiring declarations, individual files kept current. Every month the variable payroll inputs go up: absences, overtime, bonuses, arrivals and departures. The quality of that submission decides the accuracy of the payslips.

  • Write an advert, screen applications, arrange interviews
  • Draw up a contract or amendment and keep the staff register
  • Track absence, leave and medical checks across the year
  • Gather variable inputs and check a payslip

Where the HR function is practised

  • HR departments of mining and industrial groups
  • Banks, insurers and telecommunications companies
  • Recruitment firms and temporary work agencies
  • Hospitals, private schools and large service organisations
  • International organisations and externally funded programmes

The programme at a glance

Everything below is on the record: these figures appear in the filed catalogue and serve as the reference for equivalence requests, employer funding or submissions to an administration. They are given before enrolment because that is when they are useful, and because a commitment is read before it is signed.

What you work on, in order

The sequence follows the logic of the job: fundamentals first, then what builds on them, then real situations. Each step carries its own taught hours, which lets you plan the pace week by week rather than discover the workload along the way.

The programme that structures the HR function

Every row in this table comes from the official catalogue: title, duration, credits, taught hours and yearly or one-off fees. Nothing is rounded and nothing is hand-entered. This is the table you take to an employer to request funding, or to an adviser to weigh your options.

Useful to know before you apply

Is payroll part of the role?

The assistant prepares the inputs and checks their consistency; the calculation and filings belong to the payroll officer, whose level 5 qualification is the logical continuation for anyone wishing to specialise.

Which quality matters most?

Confidentiality, above all else. The role gives access to pay, family situations and disciplinary files. The framework devotes explicit time to it, because it is what sustains a career in this function.

Does the role exist in small organisations?

There it takes the form of a function shared with general administration, which makes it an excellent first job: you see the whole cycle, from hiring to departure, across a workforce you know by name.
