Reading a programme's hour count
Three figures describe a programme's workload: taught hours, personal study hours and hours per week. Knowing how they connect lets you say, before enrolling, whether the calendar holds.
Three figures, one reality
Taught hours are counted in classes, workshops, marking and reviews: they are scheduled with the institute. Personal study takes an hour and a half for every taught hour, and it is scheduled with your week. The weekly hours advertised on a programme page add both together: that is the actual working time the programme asks for, Monday to Sunday. This figure decides whether a return to study succeeds, long before the syllabus does.
